Responsible for long and short-term strategic planning, development of key performance metrics, and directing the work for the City of Denton Animal Services division.
Provides highly responsible support with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
DUTIES Provide leadership and direction to the Animal Services Division; establish and ensure vision and goals achievement through projects and programs.
Analyze and evaluate programs and services to meet internal and external stakeholder needs and goals; develop and implement corrective action(s) for program and/or service improvement.
Review processes and identify areas to enhance productivity through improved work procedures, practices, communication, and accountability; develop and implement corrective action(s).
Serve as staff liaison to the City of Denton Animal Services Advisory Committee; ensures agendas and associated materials, minutes, and meetings are posted and handled appropriately.
Facilitate and lead interdepartmental teams to accomplish work program, and/or special project(s) to meet established objectives/goals.
Participate in individual animal and intendent control; stay abreast of trends on safety management, disease control, and other animal-related programs.
Research and recommend methods of securing additional financial support for Animal Services initiatives; build capacity for Animal Services programs and projects through fund development and community partnership-building activities with internal and external stakeholders.
Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, including but not limited to, outside entities, businesses, community groups, and neighborhood groups; serve on committees and workgroups in the community to foster community relations.
Research, gather data, analyze, and prepare reports, graphs, charts and other materials for internal and external meetings as needed; attends City Council and other board meetings as needed.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES Select,train,supervise, and evaluate staff; recommend assignment/assignment change, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Develop, manage, and monitor budget; maintain accurate budget reporting; ensure that operations are cost-effective, and funds are managed wisely.

Job Requirements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Biology, Animal Behavior, Veterinary science or Wildlife or related field; and Seven (7) years of experience in business administration, public administration, local government, or related field in animal science; and Four (4) years of management or supervisory experience, OR Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Biology, Animal Behavior, Veterinary Science or Wildlife or related field; and Five (5) years of experience in business administration, public administration, local government, or related field in animal services; and Three (3) years of management or supervisory experience, ORAny combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class C driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
